face book

2009, 7.5 x 7.5 in., 24 pp.
digital edition

The images of “face book” are based on the tangram, a traditional Chinese puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes cut from a square which are rearranged to form figurative silhouettes. Here the shapes are cut from seven different exhibition postcards and stapled together to form the basic tangram pattern. The traditional use of geometric abstraction to create objective shapes is modified by objective geometry abstracting the subjective image. The title and dedication (“For all my friends”) reference online social networking.
